Welcome
to Lesotho Electricity Authority
The Lesotho Electricity and (Water)
Authority (LE(W)A) is now in its
eighth year of existence having been established in 2004 through the
Lesotho Electricity Authority (LEA) Act No.12 of 2002. The Authority
operates in line with the Government policy on electricity and water
supply matters. The LEA is funded by licenced electricity operators and
through customer levy.
In 2007 the Government
decided that the Lesotho Electricity Authority (LEA) should be
transformed to be a multi-sector regulatory body assuming additional
powers to regulate urban water and sewerage services in the country.
The LEA Amendment Act (2011) which transformed LEA into a multi-sector
regulator will come into operation at a date to be determined by the
Minister of Natural Resources.
The Authority
independently deals with matters such as electricity pricing,
complaints handling and resolution and the supervision of the
implementation of the Quality of Service and Supply standards (QOSSS)
by its licensees.
